Respite

The Summit Center offers after school, evening, and Saturday respite care services for children with autism and other developmental disabilities at our Respite Center at 55 Pineview Drive in Amherst. Our programs offer structured leisure activities and provide social opportunities to make new friends.

What makes our respite programs unique is our rigorous staff training and deep understanding of the individuals we support. In addition, staff ratios ensure that your child receives high quality care and attention.

The after school program operates year-round, Monday – Friday, from 3 – 5:30 p.m. when Summit Academy is in session. Transportation to the program is limited based on school district regulations. Parents are responsible for pick up at 5:30 p.m.

Eligibility:

• Individuals must be between ages of 5 – 21
• Must be eligible under the NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD)
• Additional behavioral or medical eligibility restrictions apply

The Saturday respite program operates on Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from the program.

• Additional behavioral or medical eligibility restrictions apply

The evening respite program operates from 6 – 9 p.m., currently occurring most Wednesdays and Fridays

Eligibility:

• Individuals are eligible the quarter in which they turn 21 years of age or graduate school
• Participants must be eligible for OPWDD HCBS Waiver funded programs
• Participants should have limited, if any, behavioral support needs and require no medication administered during program hours
• Participants should require minimal to no assistance with toileting
