The Rosenecker Family recognized as Outstanding Philanthropistat AFP’s National Philanthropy Day
The Rosenecker family was presented with the 2024 Outstanding Philanthropist award at the Association of Fundraising Professional’s National Philanthropy Day at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens on November 14. The Roseneckers were jointly nominated by The Summit Center, St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute (SJCI), Make-A-Wish, and Canisius University.
Tom and Mary Rosenecker became involved with The Summit Center in 2007 when their daughter, Claudia, began attending Summit Academy, a school for children whose educational needs cannot be met by their school district. Tom serves as a Summit Foundation board member and volunteers as many as 250 hours a year to promote Summit in the community. He has chaired the Summit Autism Walk for the past 16 years and has played an integral part in growing the event to become the largest autism acceptance fundraiser in Western New York. Together, the Rosenecker family has raised nearly $350,000 for the Autism Walk.
Claudia’s aide, Marygrace, has played an essential role in helping her reach remarkable milestones—learning to type on her iPad, drink from a cup, and even walk, an achievement her family once thought impossible. To express their gratitude, in 2023, the Rosenecker family established the Claudia Rosenecker Endowment to help fund staff retention and recognition initiatives at The Summit Center, honoring the dedication of the professionals who empower individuals like Claudia every day.
The Rosenecker family has a deep connection to St. Joe’s, dating back to 1932 when Tom’s grandfather graduated from SJCI. Tom graduated in 1988, and his sons Connor and Cameron graduated in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Generations of Roseneckers have given their money, time, and other resources to St. Joe’s, but arguably, Tom, Connor, and Cameron have gone above and beyond.
This past spring, the Rosenecker family chaired St. Joe’s annual Lasallian Dinner, led by Tom, Connor, and Cameron. The event raised over $380,000. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this annual event support critical funds for financial aid and academic scholarships; more than 80% of students receive scholarships and aid annually.
Connor serves on the President’s Council and the St. Joe’s Board of Trustees, where he has been an invaluable member of the Advancement Committee. Cameron is also on the President’s Council and has been a key advisor to President Chris Fulco.
In August 2021, Connor and Cameron established the Rosenecker Family Endowment, which provides financial aid to deserving students. Initially, a multi-year commitment, through their personal support and that of many family members they encouraged to contribute, Connor and Cameron funded the endowment in full in only two and a half years.
Tom is an extraordinary advocate and champion for Make-A-Wish, particularly for children who dream of having a special playset in their backyard. Through his company, American Eagle Fireplace & Playsets, Tom has made an incredible impact by offering discounted playsets and going above and beyond to personalize each wish. He takes the time to listen carefully to each child’s dreams, ensuring their vision comes to life in a way that feels magical and unique. His commitment to making these wishes a reality has brought joy to countless families and has been a critical part of fulfilling the Make-A-Wish mission.
But Tom’s involvement with Make-A-Wish goes beyond providing playsets. He is also a dedicated sponsor and donor; his family shares his passion for supporting the organization’s events. The Rosenecker family’s enthusiastic participation in Make-A-Wish’s Annual Radiothon and Gala is a testament to their collective commitment to the cause. Whether attending events, fundraising, or offering hands-on support, Tom and his family embody the spirit of giving and community.
In addition to his work with playsets and events, Tom serves on the Make-A-Wish Western New York Buffalo Advisory Board. As a wish dad himself, Tom brings a deeply personal perspective to the board, understanding firsthand the transformative power of a wish.
The Rosenecker family has a long-standing history with Canisius University. Tom Rosenecker graduated in 1992, and his children, Connor, Cameron, and Claire, followed in his footsteps. They all have supported the institution by providing their time, talent, and treasure throughout the years. Through their ongoing involvement, generous support, and enthusiastic participation in university events and initiatives, they have significantly enriched the campus community and contributed to the growth and success of their alma mater.
Connor serves on the Alumni Association Board of Directors, and his strategic initiatives have bolstered support and advocacy for the university’s mission among alums. Connor’s contributions were also pivotal in revitalizing the GOLDS Leadership Society, a key giving society for recent graduates.
Connor and Claire Rosenecker are both members and advocates for the Leadership Giving Society. They commit to a monthly gift to help support the Canisius Fund, which supports the university’s greatest need.
