Join us on Saturday, May 11!
At The Summit Center, we believe in every individual’s potential. We believe in their spirit, their hard work, and their determination. The 2024 Autism Walk will celebrate that belief in our children and adults, our families, our staff, and our community. The Summit Center’s Autism Walk, presented by West Herr, is a community-wide effort to raise funds in support of Summit’s programs and services in Western New York. Join us on May 11 for a fun-filled day to raise funds for The Summit Center and celebrate your child, student, neighbor, or friend.
Moving beyond awareness
In recent years, Autism Awareness Month has shifted to Autism Acceptance Month to emphasize a focus on inclusion. As the prevalence of autism increases (1 in 36 children are diagnosed), the issue at hand is not a lack of awareness but a lack of acceptance in our communities. Christopher Banks, CEO of The Autism Society of America, said it best: “Awareness is knowing that somebody has autism. Acceptance is when you include a person with autism in your activities.”
Simply put, our goal is to make lives better.
As Western New York’s leading provider of evidence-based services for children and adults with autism and other developmental, social, and behavioral challenges, our team is dedicated to helping everyone we serve achieve the highest level of independence possible.
Together we can fulfill the promise of a more typical life for each and every child, including those of your family, friends and neighbors who live with developmental disabilities like autism.
